THE VISIOn
Juneteenth is often thought of as an ending. An end to slavery. A book closing on a painful chapter. But freedom is not free. It comes with a price paid by generations. Freedom comes through action, commitment, and sacrifice. That story needs to be told.
I assembled a team of designers, animators, and sound designers to bring the story to life. Many of us came from Black Excellence at Thesis (BET). All of us rallied behind THE vision.
THE WORK
Fight for Freedom is an animated short about the journey toward freedom. The visual style is symbolic. Change and growth represented through color, energy and frustration through quick movement and original music. The viewer is invited to follow along through the search, the frustration, and the persistence along the way.
THE OUTCOME
Fight for Freedom changed the game for employee resource groups at Thesis. BET was founded to create a safe space and a sense of community. With this project, it demonstrated the ability to publish content independently. This fully animated, narrated short also pointed to new capabilities for the agency at large.
